Sunshine Giving for Special Occasions

The Sunshine Giving program is a great way for children and adults to give back to others while celebrating a special occasion. You can participate in Sunshine Giving as a birthday party theme, a Bar or Bat Mitzvah project, part of a graduation party, or to commemorate a special milestone or anniversary.

The Sunshine Giving program can be customized to meet the specific needs of your event.

How to get involved with Sunshine Giving:

Make a donation

Encourage guests to make a donation to Project Sunshine instead of, or in addition to, bringing gifts.  A monetary gift helps fund important programs and services that benefit children and families living with medical challenges.

Run a Book Drive, Toy Drive or Band Aid Drive
Before your celebration you can run a book drive, toy drive or band aid drive to collect books, toys and kids' band aids to be distributed to hospitalized children. These items serve as a distraction from everyday hospital routines and will help put a smile on a child’s face.

Make Get-Well cards with your guests at the party
Project Sunshine will help you set up a ‘craft station’ at your party. Throughout the event each guest can create a get-well card to send to a hospitalized child. These cards let children know that someone is thinking of them and can bring sunshine to their day!

Make Craft Kits or Surgi Dolls with your friends

Before or during your party, you and your guests can bring sunshine to hospitalized children by making “Craft Kits” and “Surgi Dolls”. A Craft Kit is an activity bag that includes all of the necessary materials for a child to complete an entire activity on his or her own in a hospital bed or pediatric playroom. A Surgi Doll is a stuffed, blank doll that Child Life Specialists and Pediatric Social Workers use for play therapy and for comfort during a medical procedure. By creating either of these items, you will be directly helping children have a happier day!
