Volunteer Spotlight: Jaye Thackeray

Project Sunshine Volunteer - Jaye Thackeray

When Jaye Thackeray retired last year, she began looking for a volunteer opportunity. Jaye came across Project Sunshine when her daughter Molly and grandson Simon were invited by Project Sunshine´s Young Patrons Circle to help ring the bell at the 2011 Toronto Stock Exchange Market Open.

"At the Toronto Stock Exchange, I realized that this is exactly what I want to do. I love kids. I ran a daycare for nine years and I wanted to do something that brought some fun into their lives and gave them a chance to laugh."

As a parent who raised two children of her own, Jaye credits her family with giving her the ability to interact so well with children. Currently, Jaye volunteers with the Arts and Crafts program on Tuesdays and Thursdays at The Hospital for Sick Children.

When asked about her favorite part of volunteering with Project Sunshine, Jaye mentions doing bedside visits with children who are inpatients at the hospital.

"I love going to their rooms and showing them how to do the crafts. You get to see their excitement, and it makes me very happy to see them happy!"
