Volunteer Spotlight: Jill Fletchall
While reading about Project Sunshine in a magazine, Jill Fletchall was inspired and decided to get involved. After discovering Project Sunshine did not have a chapter in Indianapolis, she took the initiative to become a Chapter Leader and built Project Sunshine's first chapter in Indiana from the ground up.
Six years later, Jill and her chapter of dedicated volunteers bring smiles to local hospitals every Thursday. Running arts and crafts programs at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children, Jill and the Project Sunshine Indianapolis chapter have brought sunshine to hundreds of children and families living with medical challenges. In 2011 alone, Jill and her volunteers devoted over 100 hours to serving more than 200 children and family members!
In addition to starting the Indianapolis chapter, Jill created Project Sunshine's Sunshine Pals program. This program sends Project Sunshine stuffed bears to hospital emergency rooms and ambulances so that children can have a companion during scary and uncomfortable times. Thanks to Jill, Project Sunshine volunteers and partners nationwide continue to provide much needed comfort to children through the Sunshine Pals program.
"I love being a part of a group that gets to help sick children. Unfortunately, the kids have to be in the hospital; I just try to bring some fun and make happy memories for them; not just the memory of being sick. The children get out of their rooms and get to be a kid creating and having fun!"
