HIV/AIDS Program
Our HIV/AIDS Program rovides special attention and care to children and families
affected by HIV and AIDS. While Project Sunshine serves a range of medical facilities,
we often work
with facilities in low-income neighborhoods where there is the greatest need for our programs.
Below is a list of programs Project Sunshine has created for the
HIV/AIDS community:
Sunshine Chefs is a program in which volunteers cook nutritious
foods with children facing medical challenges. This program operates in residential medical facilities as well as in
outpatient facilities to introduce nutrition in a creative way. Each month volunteers choose a different country, such
as Italy, Mexico, and Spain to teach both culture and cooking while the children create various dishes according to the theme.
Sunshine @ Work is a program that teaches professional
skills to teenagers facing medical challenges. Participants learn to write their own resume, engage in mock interviews, learn
interview skills, fill out job applications and eventually apply for a job.
One-to-One Tutoring and Mentoring pairs a child living with HIV/AIDS with a volunteer to help the child catch up on work in school. The volunteer serves as a
positive role model and gives the child much-needed special attention.
Sunshine Birthdays is a program that recognizes the
milestones reached by children who are infected with HIV/AIDS. Since these children
are the first generation to live healthier, longer lives, Sunshine Birthdays is a way for
children and Project Sunshine volunteers to embrace and celebrate life. The children
are provided with an activity pack, which includes arts and crafts, music,
and reading, as well as a crown for the child to wear on his or her birthday!
